First of all, congrats to SPAIN for winning the World Cup 2010! I knew you guys going to win. Just like what Paul the Octopus said! :p

Hmm..I read in the newspaper about the article which said that most companies were expecting their male employees to take more medical leave/urgent leave during the soccer season. Even teachers were worried about their male students to be absent from school or late for their lessons. Well, from what i observed, most of my classmates, not only the guys, but also the girls, watched the soccer matches. What really impressed me was that, they did attend their lessons even though they slept for a couple of hours. This shows that, they're responsible enough to still attend their lessons.

Gambling was also an issue during the world cup season. People were betting money on the country that they thought would win. I experienced this too. Some of my friends were betting on the countries that they hope would win.Well, luck wasn't always on them. They lost a large sum of money in total. Lucky enough, i even i do like watching soccer, i don't like betting.

Flood in S'pore: who should bare the responsibility?
Yups. We can see that it has been raining heavily lately. But I like it though! J While I was enjoying the rain in school and at home, there are people who dislike the heavy rain which had caused flood in S’pore.

As what we had seen or read in the newspaper or television news, the rain was so heavy that it had caused flood. Many shop owners experienced a big loss due to their products being destroyed by the flood.

I watched the news recently and the newscaster said that the drains at one of the place which was flooding were choked. The rain was also so strong that it has caused trees to fall. This had caused accidents and death. There was one driver who died on the spot when a tree fell on top of his car while he was driving. This shows that S’pore has to prepare for any nature disastrous. It’s true that S’pore doesn’t experience nature disastrous easily, but that does not mean that we will not experience it at all.

Hence, we have to work together as a nation, by helping ourselves and one other if there is any case that S’pore is going to get struck by any other nature disastrous. (Touchwood)

Do we have racial Harmony in S'pore? if yes, is it based on understanding or tolerance?
We do have racial harmony in the country. Since we were in class, the teachers had always conducted programmes that would make us understand more about other races and religions. By having the knowledge about the way of livings of the other races, we will be able to respect one another.

Other than conducting programmes, schools in S’pore also make sure that students work with different races in school projects. Through this, students are able to understand one another.

Racial harmony is basically based on both understanding and tolerance. Well, in this world, no one is perfect. Even though we were taught to not to be racist since we were in school, they are still others that refuse to mix around with the other races.

This may be due to misunderstanding and tolerance.

As human, we can’t run away from making mistakes. Hence, there are times where we would have an argument with friends or strangers of the different races due to misunderstanding. This can lead to detest and racism towards the other race.

Different people have different characteristics and attitudes. I’d ever experienced of being racism. When I was in secondary school, two third of my classmates were foreigners. Majority of them came from China and Indonesia. As we know, China people are very smart. What made me turn off from them was that, I couldn’t tolerate their attitudes. Yes. They knew that they were smart, but there was no reason for them to not mix around with their own classmates. There was once that I was in charge of the school sports day. Hence, I tried to make the whole class to participate. I included the whole classmates in every sport. However, this group of China students just refused to participate. They way they answered me made it sound as if sports day was nonsense. From there, I’ve learn that we need to tolerate other people of the different races in other to stay in racial harmony. (Don’t worry. I was only racist at that point of time J )

Thus, to conclude everything, we live in racial harmony based on understanding and tolerance.

Online Privacy
Website applications nowadays are mostly about sharing things with your friends online. Most popular websites are Facebook and Twitter. By using these two websites, we’re able to let other people, mainly those who follow us through Facebook and Twitter, know what we do by updating it on our status. These websites allow us to make the decision to privative our profile or not. This will only allow certain people to view our profile.

However, there’re some people who did not use these websites appropriately. They vent out their anger by posting it up on their status. I’ve ever seen one of my friends arguing with her friend on Facebook due to an unpleasant status that her friend had stated about her on the post. Hence, this shows that there is no privacy in the internet as many people can view their argument. Any misunderstanding that we have with other people should be kept privately between us and the other party.

Thus, there is definitely a lot of room for privacy in the internet. It’s all depends on whether we want to privatise it or not. There are certainly some things that can’t be share with others on the net.

P.S.: Internet is for us to connect with other people around the globe. Hence we should make enough room of privacy in the for ourselves.

Floods in Singapore: who should bear the responsibility?

It has been a few days of heavy rainfall in Singapore such as it can even cause flooding in a ‘First-world’ country referred by people to our country. This is shocking news such as newspaper is always publishing about Singapore flooding in places nowadays. Many people are wondering what the causes of flooding are and who is responsible for this happening.

There are people who are blaming the PUB for not maintaining the drainage system. They also think that Marina Barrage was designed wrongly therefore, not able to drain the water well even though it was a great idea or people operating the Marina Barrage is not doing their jobs well. What do you think about it?
In my opinion, I think it is a natural disaster and we cannot do anything to stop it. However, even though raining is a natural happening, humans also do contribute to the flooding.

It might be due to humans littering into the canals when they are lazy to throw it into a bin etc, therefore, clogging up the drainage system. This will not allow the rainwater to be drain easily as compared to a no litter’s one. It can also be due to us contributing to global warming by driving cars exhausting fumes, or using things that release CFC, changing the weather. Also, if PUB wants to solve this problem by carrying out projects, I do not think citizens will be willing to fork out money and man power to help for free.

Therefore, it is actually us should bear the responsibility. I am sure if we help out by not throwing litters into canals etc, it will help reduced the flooding. So, stop blaming each other!

Do we have racial harmony in Spore? If yes, is it based on understanding or tolerance?
Yes, we have racial harmony in Singapore!

As what many people know, Singapore is proud to be a multi-racial country. This is a good thing such as there will no riots and allowing us to live in harmony with other races. However, we cannot possibility have total harmony such as sometimes there will still be racist remarks. We also have Racial Harmony Day celebration on 21st July such as people wear each other races costumes to school and learn about different races cultures on that day.

Racial harmony in Singapore is based on BOTH understanding and tolerance.

Understanding as we do know the consequences if there is no harmony between every races, therefore not allowing it to happen. If there is no harmony, riots can cause many deaths which we do not want to see. It is also based on understanding that we are able to make friends with different races and able to understand what they feels about us too.

Tolerance as we are needed to abide the law in Singapore like not posting any racist remarks that hurts other races or there will be some bad consequences. This includes also not blogging racist remarks. We may also try to tolerate so as to not hurt our friends with the other races, or else we will be hate by them.

For me I think both understanding and tolerance play an important part in racial harmony.
Anyways, I love the peace now and how different races get along!

Any more room for privacy given the hyper-connected world of online social networking?
Online social networking consists of facebook, friendster and online games etc.

If you ask me if there is any more room for privacy, I say it depends.
Depends on what? It depends on yourself as you can choose what you write and how you privatized it.

Yes. For facebook and friendster, you can choose whether if you want to add that person or not allowing people you do not know to see your profile and things and how you want to privatized it. Even if you upload revealing photos, you can choose who you allow to see it when you upload. In the first place, do not even upload anything you do not want people to see! For online games, you can choose not to reveal your identity by self-given character name and contact number etc to people in games.

No. For facebook and friendster, sometimes people still can view your photos through your friends profile as they might have add you therefore able to share the view of your profile with their friends. You also cannot control what your friends’ wants to upload and say in their own profile, maybe your ugly looking pictures or your secrets. For games, same thing, you might just trade numbers with your friends online, not knowing that they will irritates you.

Therefore, I said it depends on yourself, on how you want to do your things online.

World Cup 2010
world cup logo Pictures, Images and Photos

From what we know, World Cup can be known as the hottest topic nowadays. Most of my friends and even my dad watches it too since it is a rare event that happens once every 4 years.

However, due to a time difference in Singapore and South Africa, one of the matches is broadcast at 2.30am at night. As football fans, people regardless working or studying the next day will watch it to support the teams they think would win. As a lack of sleep, it will thus affect office and school productivity. This is because they do not have enough energy and feels sleepy, causing them to unable to work or study well. They might also be late for their work.

Some people also watch it as they bet on it, thus was very eager to know who win and lose to see if they had won any money. This means that it does promote more social ills as people will want to earn some money through winning from gambling. It has many gambling ways, such as guessing the goals, total number of goals and who wins. Even some of my friends, do bet on it too and they either win or lose money.
This is a rare event. I am sure if people have self-control and not to go overboard, and able to coordinate their time well, watching world cup would not cause much effects to their productivity and cause tragedy from gambling.
