Social Etiquette of Smartphones

Smartphones can be seen almost everywhere in Singapore now, popular for their wireless access and other functions.
Well smartphones are really convenient for people to the state that they can cause bad social etiquette as they do not use it during the right time.
I am sure most of you or your friends own a smartphone.
Do you feel that it is very rude when you are talking to your friend, and instead of listening to you, they are texting or playing games?
When they do that to me, I will be very frustrated as they will ask me to repeat my questions or ask me what I was saying before that!
Using smartphones during important meetings or in lectures is not only rude, but can also cause distraction to other people.
Sometimes during lectures in school, I see people in front of me playing games on their iPhone, and it cause me to be distracted and keep looking at how they win their games.
Well, I am not stating that smartphones is causing all the bad things, it does serves good purposes too.
When there are any situations, we can call the emergency numbers right away instead finding public phones to make calls.
Of course, we all do have a life. We need to socialize by sms to inform each other on things or chat with each other.
However, we should draw a line on using it.
During important events such as meetings, funerals and religious events or even in theater, smartphones should be in silent or vibrating mode so as to show respect.
Unless there is really an emergency call, then you should excuse yourself to go out to receive it, or else you can always call that person back later.
During gatherings or dinner with your friends, you should try to use it lesser to show how important they are.
Anyways, why use your smartphones when you want to spend quality time with your friends?
Playing with smartphones may be a put-off to people around you, but ignoring it can be a real compliment to those same people. (:
