Social Etiquette Of Smartphones

Smartphones? What difference it has from an ordinary mobile phones? Why smartphones tend to be the most popular choice among teenagers? This is all due to the fast evolving world where technologies and ideas come as one to gradually improves the standard living of the people. Smartphones is a more advanced version of a mobile phone that combines a lot of features into one. For example, the user can surf the Internet wirelessly, capture priceless moments through its highly resolution camera and check emails through the convenience of a smartphone. With an incredible features found in a smartphone, its obviously every teenager's desire to have a smartphone.
It has been a social norm to see teenagers carrying smartphones everywhere they go nowdays. In the MRT, shopping malls, fastfood restaurant and even in school. Parents obvious reason for getting their children a smartphone is for easier contact in times of emergency and to please their children. But do these teenagers really need a smartphone that cost approximately between $300-$800 when the basic function they need is to make a call and send text messages? The answer to that is NO. Then why they are still getting a smartphone instead of a normal mobile phone? The answer lies in everything that is surrounding us.
Media, magazines, newspapers and the internet widely showcase a variety of these smartphones and the advantages it has over mobile phones. Friends too make an impact on teenagers wanting a smartphone, as teenagers feel belittled to see their friends having material goods such as the smartphones. Teenagers wants a life they seen on the television and see it as a normal thing to do but usually the media does not really portrayed the right thing. For example, an episode from Gossip Girls, it was seen that the main character happily texted her friends while she was having a lesson without her teachers knowing. This is a bad example and teenagers thinks there's no wrong with it.
I have seen myself first hand of the wrong social etiquette of smartphones done by teenagers and I myself have committed these offences. Let me ask you, do you like it when your talking to your friends but they are not listening to you because they are busily playing games on their smartphones? Or how about when your trying to pay attention to the lessons but your distracted by a group of students sitting behind you talking on their phone? Won't you be pissed off by their actions? Well I did. When my friends don't pay attention to whatever that I'm saying, I will stop talking until he or she realise that their actions have seriously put me off. I mean your supposed to have a friend's outing with them but in the end they prioritise their games than you!!! Your trying your best to stay awake and at the same time pay attention to whatever the lecturer is saying but some inconsiderate students happily chatting away behind you on their phone!!!! If you are not getting mad about this then your probably abnormal or your one of those students who have committed this offence.
Students and teenagers took everything for granted. They don't realise that their actions are wrong and have offended the people around them. They need to know where to draw the lines between leisure time and serious time. Someone need to emphasize the importance of respect and the right social etiquette of smartphones to these group of people so as to avoid the repetition of such events from occurring again.
